Sinusitis

Sinusitis is where the sinuses (small, empty spaces behind your cheekbones and forehead) become swollen, usually caused by an infection. Common symptoms are pain, swelling and tenderness around your cheeks, eyes or forehead, a blocked or runny nose, a reduced sense of smell, green or yellow mucus from your nose and a high temperature.

Our pharmacy can assess and prescribe antibiotics for adults and children over the age of 12 years*.

Sore Throat –

Strep throat is a bacterial infection of the throat and tonsils caused by group A streptococcus bacteria. Common symptoms are a sore throat that starts quickly and may look red, pain when swallowing, red and swollen tonsils, swollen lymph nodes in the front of the neck, tiny red spots on the roof of the mouth called petechiae and white patches on the tonsils.

Our pharmacy can assess and prescribe antibiotics for adults and children over the age of 5 years*.

Ear Infection – 

Ear infection is caused by a bacterium or virus in the middle ear and is often a result of another illness such as a cold or allergy. Common symptoms are earache, difficulty hearing and a feeling of pressure or fullness in your ear, the ear may also feel warm. Young children and babies with an ear infection may also rub or pull their ear, not react to some sounds, be irritable or restless, be off their food and keep losing their balance

Our pharmacy can assess and prescribe antibiotics for children and young adults aged 1 year to 17 years*.

We can also prescribe these antibiotics for adults over 18 years privately for £40.

Infected Insect Bites – 

Insect bites and stings are common and usually only cause minor irritation. However, some stings can be painful and trigger a serious allergic reaction. Common signs of an infected insect bites are pus in or around the bite, swollen glands, increased pain, swelling and redness in and around the bite.

Our pharmacy can assess and prescribe antibiotics for adults and children aged 1 year and over*.

Impetigo – 

Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection that often starts with sores or blisters on the face or hands and is common in children. Common symptoms are blisters that may be pus-filled and burst easily. The fluid may be yellow or tan and it may seep out and form a crust. A rash that can spread and cause red, raw skin. Skin lesions on your child’s lips, nose, ears, arms and legs may appear. The lesions can spread to other parts of their body.

Shingles – 

Shingles is a painful condition caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. Common symptoms are a rash around the left or right side of the body. The rash is usually painful, itchy, or tingly. Shingles can lead to serious complications. The most common shingles complication is long-term nerve pain called postherpetic neuralgia, or PHN.

Urinary Tract Infections (women) –

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common bacterial infections that can affect any part of the urinary tract, including the bladder and kidneys. The bacteria enter through the tube that carries pee out of the body (urethra). Women have a shorter urethra than men. Common symptoms are pain or a burning sensation when urinating (dysuria), needing to urinate more often than usual, urine that looks cloudy, blood in your urine, lower tummy pain or pain in your back, just under the ribs and a high temperature, or feeling hot and shivery.

Our pharmacy can asses and prescribe antibiotics for women aged 16 – 64 years*.
We can also prescribe these antibiotics for women aged 65 – 70 years privately for £40.
